Alison Berry, Energy and Economics Specialist for the Sonoran Institute

Alison is the energy and economics specialist at the Sonoran Institute. Previously, she was a research fellow at PERC – the Property and Environment Research Center—where her work focused on forest economics and policy. She has also worked for the USDA Forest Service in Bozeman, Montana and Logan, Utah, and the Trustees of Reservation in Massachusetts. She holds a master's degree in forestry from the University of Montana and a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Vermont. Outside the office, she enjoys pursuing adventures in the mountains and rivers of the Northern Rockies.

Michele Steinberg, Program Manager for Firewise Communities Program

Michele is the Firewise® Communities Program manager for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in Quincy, Massachusetts, where she has worked since 2002. She oversees the national Firewise Communities/USA® Recognition Program, which reaches more than a million residents of wildfire-prone communities around the nation. Michele has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of natural hazards and land use planning, and disaster safety marketing and outreach. She is the author of numerous articles and technical documents on disaster safety and mitigation planning. Michele earned her bachelor's degree in English from Brandeis University and her master's degree in urban planning from Boston University. She also serves as an adjunct professor of emergency management at Trine University in northeastern Indiana.

Jill Alexander, Fire Mitigation Specialist for Douglas County, CO

Jill received her undergraduate degree in natural resources management from Colorado State University in 1991 and her master's degree in environmental policy and management from the University of Denver in 1998. She spent over five years with the US Forest Service in timber sale administration and sale preparation. At Douglas County she started in stormwater management and erosion control. In wildfire mitigation she has grown the program from regulatory based to include education and outreach, development review, and forest stewardship consulting for the County Open Space Department. Jill worked collaboratively with homeowner groups, conservation organizations, and other professional resources groups to complete Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs) and mitigation projects.
