Asset Management Research Roundtable
A topic of great interest to both Western Lands and Communities and state trust land managers in the West is that of long-term, sustainable and diversified asset management. State trust lands were formed to create value for public beneficiaries in perpetuity, yet there few sophisticated tools and expertise available to trust managers to improve their ability to evaluate long term, sustainable revenue streams, determine the best methods to diversify the portfolio, or to consider trade-offs in management activities that may foreclose other, future options. Western Lands and Communities plans to convene a research roundtable on asset management for state trust lands, bringing together experts in the state of the art on asset management for long term investment portfolios, professionals involved in ecosystem service market development and other future and emerging markets, and state trust land managers interested in new approaches and methods of valuing long term asset potential.
Through this research roundtable, Western Lands and Communities plans to identify new research, tool, and policy analysis needs, and engage in a multi-year research plan to develop and build those resources for improved state trust land management in the region.
