Lucky Corridor
Lucky Corridor Map
Project Description
The Lucky Corridor is a proposed 93-mile double circuit 230kV line between Taos and Farley, New Mexico. Because the project proposes to upgrade an existing 115kV transmisison line and right-of-way, the Lucky Corridor project hopes to limit environmental impacts. The existing right-of-way apparently needs to be widened only in certain areas on private and state lands, and not at all within denser residential areas such as the town of Taos.
The project is well-sited to transmit high-quality wind and solar resources that are abundant in northeastern New Mexico. In particular, this area is home to high-caliber wind resouces in the summertime--a time of high power demand in the southwest, when winds typicaly dip beneath commercial levels in other wind-generating areas.
Status
The Lucky Corridor won FERC negotiated rate authority in October 2012, so that it can now negotiate with anchor tenants. The project is expected to begin construction in 2014, with a targeted in-service date of 2016.
