Western Colorado Legacy Program
The Western Colorado Legacy Program (WCLP) is one of four Sonoran Institute legacy programs in the Intermountain West, and represents an enduring commitment to the land, people, and communities of western Colorado. The program works towards a region of healthy rivers and landscapes; of compact, walkable communities with diverse housing options bound by open lands, connected by transit systems, and served by clean, renewable energy.
Based in Glenwood Springs, the Program works with community partners to shape a more sustainable future for the region; one of healthy landscapes, resilient economies and thriving communities.
A new team is now in place to carry out the mission of the Sonoran Institute’s Western Colorado program. The WCLP has gained two new project managers and an office manager.
John Lavey manages projects that build local capacity for rural smart growth, watershed management and land conservation. Jillian Sutherland manages projects that research the nexus between community and economic development, and provides direct assistance for local partners in smart growth implementation. Our newest team member, Kelley Sturgeon, manages office operations. Clark Anderson serves as our Program Director. This energetic team is excited to partner with communities to shape a more sustainable future for the region.
